Parliament Speaker Anita Among, accompanied by Commissioner Hon Mathias Mpuuga, led a team to Mandela National Stadium to inspect ongoing works.
Guided by army officials under the supervision of Sports State Minister Peter Ogwang, Speaker Among expressed her astonishment at the progress made by the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Engineering Brigade.
“I’m truly impressed by what I’ve seen here,” she remarked. Determined to ensure perfection, Among announced Parliament’s intention to conduct a forensic audit to determine the exact funding required to complete the project.
Minister Ogwang urged contractors to finalize all pending tasks within two weeks to prepare for the upcoming African Nations Championships (CHAN). Additionally, the stadium plays a pivotal role in Uganda’s preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2027.
Despite an allocation of Shs80 billion, an additional Shs17.7 billion is needed to fulfill the project’s requirements. Speaker Among emphasized the importance of releasing the remaining funds promptly.
Responding to Minister Ogwang’s request, Speaker Among ordered the removal of Pioneer Bus Limited vehicles parked in stadium spaces to facilitate inspections.
