Muhammad Luwemba Lusswa, former aide to the late Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya, has accused National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, of failing to support Ssegirinya while he was incarcerated.
Appearing on Sanyuka Television on Friday, Luwemba alleged that Kyagulanyi did not visit either Ssegirinya or Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana during the nearly two years they spent in prison on murder charges related to a series of machete attacks in Masaka.
“The party president never came to the prison. Even Ssewanyana can confirm that. I was present frequently and saw everyone who visited,” Luwemba stated.
He further claimed that Ssegirinya died feeling let down by the NUP.
“He passed away disillusioned with the party. May God strike me down if I’m lying,” he said.

However, these allegations are contradicted by documented visits made by Kyagulanyi to Kigo Prison. During at least one visit, Kyagulanyi addressed the media and provided updates on the condition of the detained MPs, confirming his support and physical presence at the facility.
Luwemba’s assertion that Ssegirinya had distanced himself from NUP is also inconsistent with Ssegirinya’s own public remarks before his death. The late MP had acknowledged the party’s role in his political rise and expressed gratitude for its support.

These claims surface amid renewed tensions within the opposition. Recently, Kyagulanyi and Ssewanyana suggested that former Leader of the Opposition Mathias Mpuuga may have played a part in their legal troubles
