The Uganda Cranes are back in action today, Tuesday, March 24th, 2025, for a pivotal 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Guinea at Mandela National Stadium , Namboole.

After a tough 3-1 loss to Mozambique, the Cranes are under pressure to secure a victory to keep their World Cup hopes alive.

Guinea, on the other hand, comes into this match following a disappointing 0-0 draw with Somalia. Despite dominating possession, they struggled to break down Somalia’s solid defense, with goalkeeper Abdirahman Mohamud Jama putting in an outstanding performance to deny Guinea the win.

The draw left Guinea in third place with seven points, just one ahead of Uganda.

Both teams are desperate for a win, making today’s game even more intense. Uganda will look to use their home advantage and the expected strong crowd support at Namboole to their benefit.

Head coach Paul Put has emphasized the need for mental toughness and sharp finishing, while captain Khalid Aucho has urged fans to stand behind the team.

While Uganda will be cautious of Guinea’s attacking capabilities, they can take some confidence from Guinea’s struggles to score against Somalia.

However, the Uganda Cranes must address their defensive weaknesses, particularly after conceding from a corner against Mozambique.

A victory for Uganda Cranes would see them leapfrog Guinea in the standings, significantly improving their chances in the tightly contested Group G. On the other hand, another defeat could leave them with a daunting challenge ahead in the qualification race.
