Police in the Kampala Metropolitan area have confirmed the fatal shooting of one person and the injury of another following an aggravated robbery at a mobile money shop in Ntinda, a Kampala suburb, on Thursday evening.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Publicist for KMP, reported that Kira Road Police responded to the robbery scene. The incident tragically led to the death of one individual, identified as Tugume Albert Cook, the brother of Deputy Kampala Lord Mayor, Ms. Doreen Nyanjura.
“Officers from Kira Road Police responded to an aggravated robbery in Ntinda. Sadly, one person has been confirmed dead, and another has been injured. Further details will follow,” ASP Owoyesigyire stated in a brief post on his official X account Thursday evening.
Shortly before the police statement, Ms. Nyanjura had shared the news of her brother’s abduction and death on her X account.
She explained that Tugume had been kidnapped at gunpoint from his mobile money shop on Central Road near Fraine Supermarket in Ntinda-Kigoowa, before being fatally shot by the attackers.
“My brother, Tugume Albert Cook, was abducted at gunpoint from his mobile money shop on Central Road, Ntinda Kigoowa road. One person has been shot dead,” Nyanjura wrote at 8:42 PM.
In a follow-up post at 8:57 PM, she confirmed her brother’s death, stating, “My brother has been killed.”
At the time of this report, details on the specific amount of money or property taken by the robbers remained unclear.
