Pastor Aloysius Bugingo of House of Prayer Ministries International in Kikoni, Bwaise, recently opened up to his congregation about the trials he has faced since 2015.
During his Sunday sermon , Bugingo revealed that his journey has not been an easy one, marred by personal attacks, assassination attempts, and efforts to undermine his ministry.
Bugingo reflected on some of the most difficult moments, including the ongoing health struggles of Kawempe North legislator Muhammad Ssegirinya. He said that, “I have witnessed God’s hand since 2015. Despite everything, I have stood firm. Many tried to bring down this church, but God’s mercy has kept us going.”
He specifically called out Ssegirinya, who had once mocked his ministry on social media. “People like Muhammad Ssegirinya, who isn’t even a Christian, used to post pictures of empty seats on his Facebook page, claiming that Canan (the church) was abandoned. Does he still post those things now? God forgive him—he’s a Muslim. What did he gain from that?” he asked.
The pastor also revealed that conmen and mafias have used his name and phone number in fraudulent WhatsApp groups, scamming unsuspecting people by pretending to be close to him. Many have fallen victim to these schemes.
He went on to describe how he almost lost one billion Ugandan shillings in a fraudulent radio frequency deal. “They tried to cheat me out of close to a billion shillings, but thank God, we managed to reclaim the frequency,” Bugingo said.
Looking back on his life, Bugingo recounted how he believes Satan has been targeting him since childhood. He shared a story about his mother leaving him in an incubator for a month at Masaka Hospital, uncertain whether he would survive.
Earlier this year, on January 5th, Bugingo narrowly survived an assassination attempt near Namungoona, an attack that claimed the life of his bodyguard. According to police reports, seven bullets were fired at his vehicle. “I still carry scars from that day. I don’t know who was behind the attack, but I survived,” Bugingo shared.
He also spoke about internal struggles within his family, particularly the attempted takeover of his church by his ex-wife, Teddy Bugingo, and their daughter. “They conspired to remove me from the church I founded. Teddy and our daughter even filed documents with the Registrar of Companies, trying to claim ownership of the church and businesses. Thankfully, my lawyers acted quickly, and we added more members to the board to protect everything,” he said.
Despite all these adversities, Pastor Bugingo continues to lead his congregation with unwavering faith, grateful for God’s protection over his life and ministry.
