Alpha Ssali, has signed with Ugandan football powerhouse NEC, the son of renowned musician Bebe Cool signed a two-year contract.
Ssali, a graduate of Proline Academy, joins NEC after making the decision to part ways with Express FC during the January transfer window.
His transfer has been a hot topic in Ugandan football, with multiple clubs, including URA and Wakiso Giants, vying for his signature. However, NEC moved quickly and decisively to finalize the deal.
The young winger’s departure from Express follows a special clause in his contract that allowed him to explore other opportunities due to limited playing time at the club.
Alpha Ssali had joined Express in August 2023 on a two-year contract, but his role was restricted, which led to a mutual decision to seek a new challenge.
During his time at Express, Alpha Ssali made 10 appearances in the 2023/24 season, starting six matches and coming off the bench in four. He scored three goals for the Red Eagles.
NEC, currently sitting second in the Uganda Premier League standings with 33 points, just one behind leaders Vipers, is making a push for their first-ever UPL title.
This strong position in the league is likely a key factor in Ssali’s decision to join the club, which boasts both ambition and stability.
NEC’s head coach, Hussein Mbalangu, will look to Ssali to add depth and strength to his attacking lineup as the team prepares for their crucial home match against KCCA on February 13 at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
However, breaking into the first team at NEC will not be an easy task for Alpha Ssali, who will face stiff competition from established players like James Jarieko, a key figure in the team’s attack. To earn a starting spot, Ssali will need to deliver consistent and standout performances.

Bebe Cool had previously shared that his son was in Spain undergoing trials with Khaled Catalunya Management. While those trials did not result in an immediate move abroad, the musician has always expressed his dream of seeing Alpha play professionally overseas. It is expected that NEC’s contract may include a clause that facilitates a future transfer to an international club.
