Justine Ssanyu Nakajumba, the mother of the late Kawempe North legislator Muhammad Ssegirinya, has appealed to both Parliament and the public for financial assistance to help care for her grandchildren.
Nakajumba disclosed that she has been introduced to eight children who are believed to be Ssegirinya’s biological children. She explained that she is struggling to provide for them, as the little money she had was used to buy food for mourners at Kaddugala-Butale in Masaka, where the late MP was laid to rest.
Nakajumba also claimed that the National Unity Platform (NUP), the party to which Ssegirinya belonged, has not provided any financial aid. She called on Parliament to offer urgent support.
In response, Members of Parliament pledged during a session on Friday to contribute Shs 300,000 each, amounting to Shs 150 million, to assist the family.
Ssegirinya passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at the age of 37, after a prolonged battle with health complications.
