Muhammad Nsereko made his intentions clear during an online interview.

“I am not coming back for Kampala Central. I already told the people I won’t be returning; a leader is judged by their word, and my word is very clear. Secondly, I’m not coming for Lord Mayor,” he confirmed.

Nsereko has represented Kampala Central as an Independent MP since 2011, earning recognition for his professionalism and dedication to his constituents.

His decision to retire reflects a growing trend among parliamentarians, with over 40 MPs reportedly planning to step down in 2026. This shift suggests a broader reevaluation of political careers as lawmakers contemplate their futures beyond their current terms.

As politicians strategize for the upcoming election cycle, Nsereko’s departure signifies his personal commitment to transitioning away from public service. His choice stands as a notable example of political self-reflection and an openness to new leadership.

With Nsereko and other like-minded MPs preparing to conclude their time in office, Uganda’s political landscape may experience significant changes. Their retirements present opportunities for new faces and fresh perspectives to emerge, potentially reshaping the country’s political dialogue and priorities in the coming years.
