In response, friends, former teammates, and well-wishers have launched an appeal for financial support to help cover his medical bills. Donations can be sent via mobile money to: +256 708 975 563.

Sserumaga had recently made a surprising return to competitive football earlier this year, signing with Proline FC during the January transfer window.

His comeback was fueled by impressive performances with “Football Classroom” a team formed through a WhatsApp group that took part in the 51st edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup. Although the team was knocked out in the Round of 64 by Buhimba United (FUFA Big League), Sserumaga’s standout play earned him a spot at Proline.

Over the course of his career, Sserumaga played for several top clubs both locally and internationally, including KB Lions, SC Villa, Vipers SC, Police FC, URA FC, St. George (Ethiopia), Helsingborg (Sweden), and Rayon Sport (Rwanda).

He was also a key figure for the Uganda Cranes, earning 34 caps and scoring six goals for the national team.

Sserumaga is considered one of Uganda’s most accomplished footballers, having won two league titles, one CECAFA Club Championship, and one Uganda Cup.
