Katikkiro Refutes Pallaso’s Claims of Knighthood by Kabaka

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has dismissed assertions made by singer Pallaso that he was knighted by the Kabaka and granted the title “Sir.”

In an interview with Sanyuka TV, Mayiga clarified that while Pallaso real name Pius Mayanja did perform at a royal event two years ago, he was never officially honored with knighthood by the monarch.

Pallaso had previously claimed he was the first Ugandan musician to receive the “Sir” title from the Kabaka, a claim that Mayiga firmly rejected.

He emphasized that such distinctions are awarded based on an individual’s merit and contribution to Buganda, not merely for attending or performing at royal functions.

“The Kabaka bestows knighthood on individuals who have demonstrated a consistent commitment to uplifting the kingdom and embodying its values,” Mayiga said.

He highlighted respected artists such as Mathias Walukagga, Mesach Ssemakula, Paul Saaka, Moses Matovu, and the Afrigo Band as true recipients of the honor, recognized for promoting Buganda’s culture and maintaining exemplary public conduct.

Mayiga praised Ssemakula, in particular, for his inspirational music and dignified behavior.

“He has never been involved in public brawls or used offensive language,” the Katikkiro noted, contrasting this with the behavior of some artists who have tarnished their image with public scandals.
