Renowned Ugandan singer Jose Chameleone, born Joseph Mayanja, has revealed that he’s embracing a new chapter in his life ,one free from alcohol and cigarettes.
In a recent interview while in Kenya for routine medical check-ups, Jose Chameleone shared that he has decided to turn over a new leaf after years of smoking and drinking. The change, he said, is fueled by a renewed focus on his health and a second chance at life.
“God has given me another chance, and so I am reborn. Whatever I was doing is now in the past, and I have started a new life in this second round,” he said.
Reflecting on his age, Chameleone added, “I’m three years away from turning 50, so I have to slow down on everything.”
The singer returned to Uganda on April 12, 2025, after spending four months in the United States for medical treatment, including surgery on his pancreas—an issue reportedly linked to long-term alcohol use.
He was welcomed back at Entebbe International Airport by cheering fans, and soon after, he held a thanksgiving mass where he publicly committed to leading a healthier lifestyle.
Chameleone acknowledged that his recovery journey isn’t over, as he will continue with follow-up treatments and medical evaluations in the months ahead.
