Singer Shafiq Jjingo popularly known as Fik Gaza, was rearrested by security operatives just hours after the court granted him bail.
The “Banana” hitmaker was taken into custody outside Makindye Court and swiftly transported in a police van to an undisclosed location.
Earlier in the day, the Makindye Court had released Gaza on bail after he deposited Shs 1 million in cash. His sureties were bonded at Shs 10 million (non-cash), and as part of the conditions, Fik Gaza was required to hand over his passport to the court. The case was adjourned to May 12, 2025.
Reports suggest that the singer’s re-arrest is linked to new charges connected to a robbery in Wakiso.
Fik Gaza was originally apprehended last Thursday during a police operation at his home in Makindye, where he was charged with aggravated robbery. However, after consultations with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), the charge was later downgraded to simple robbery.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, confirmed the change in charges on Monday, stating that the case file had been updated following the DPP’s directive.

Onyango also clarified that while the suspects were set to appear in court last Friday, the charge revision required further processing.
In a new development, Onyango revealed that both Fik Gaza and his co-accused now face additional charges of aggravated robbery. A new file from Wakiso Police has emerged, detailing this charge.
Onyango explained that Wakiso detectives requested the suspects remain in custody at Katwe Police Station while they provide their statements. The concern is that if the simple robbery charge remains, Gaza might be granted bail before the investigation into the aggravated robbery is completed.
Fik Gaza has vehemently denied the robbery allegations, insisting that his arrest is part of a conspiracy aimed at ruining his career. On social media, he has publicly rejected the charges, claiming they are false and fabricated by individuals seeking to tarnish his reputation.
The situation has become more complicated with the involvement of one of Gaza’s co-accused, Charles Zziwa, also known as Muzungu. Zziwa now faces murder charges and is wanted for escaping lawful custody after being taken for medical treatment.
