Ugandan music star and Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) president, Eddy Kenzo, has proposed the establishment of a cemetery dedicated exclusively to creatives, saying it would help honor their contribution and preserve their legacy.

Kenzo made the remarks while speaking at the vigil of Fik Fameica’s mother, the late Jackline Nassimbwa, who passed away on Friday after a battle with cancer.

According to Kenzo, during the remaining period of his tenure at UNMF, he plans to push for the creation of a resting place specifically meant for creatives, with full consent from their families.

He explained that many creatives, especially those from humble backgrounds, often face challenges securing proper burial grounds despite their contribution to society.

“It would be fitting to have a designated resting place for creatives only. Some of them do not have family land, yet they deserve a dignified send-off,” Kenzo said.

Drawing from his own experience growing up on the streets, Kenzo noted that many artists rise from difficult backgrounds and may not have access to family burial land.

He added that creatives who have entertained the nation and helped grow the industry deserve a place where fans and loved ones can visit and remember them.

Kenzo further suggested that such a cemetery could grow into a national site celebrating Uganda’s creative heritage.

The vigil was also attended by National Unity Platform (NUP) leader and musician Bobi Wine, who used the moment to call on leaders and artists to speak out for better healthcare services in the country.

Bobi Wine said Fik Fameica’s mother might have lived longer if Uganda had stronger medical facilities, noting that her death from cancer at the age of 51 was painful and possibly preventable.

Jackline Nassimbwa was laid to rest on the 29th in Kasana, Luweero District.
