Christian Asiimwe, popularly known as Don Chris and a self-proclaimed Kampala socialite, is currently wanted by police over a suspected job scam involving his company, Skypins Tours and Travel.
Don Chris has been a familiar face in Kampala’s nightlife and entertainment scene for the past three years, known for his extravagant lifestyle and sponsoring music concerts through his travel agency.
However, his company is now under investigation following allegations of fraud.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, Skypins Tours and Travel ran widespread advertisements on TV, radio, and social media platforms like TikTok, promoting overseas job opportunities.
The company urged job seekers to visit their offices at Ntinda Haruna Mall, where they were offered contracts for positions in countries such as Canada, the UK, Dubai, Qatar, and Luxembourg.
“The victims were told they could travel on loan terms after paying half of the required fees, depending on the specific contract,” Onyango explained.
Police say that between 2023 and 2024, multiple individuals paid amounts ranging from Shs3.5 million to Shs10 million, totaling an estimated Shs500 million. Victims received official company receipts and were promised departure within two to six months. However, none of them were ever flown abroad as promised.
Authorities also noted a suspicious change of the company’s location from Ntinda Haruna Mall, where most transactions took place, to a new office in Kitende along Entebbe Road.
After the victims sought help from the Minister of Youth and Children Affairs, Hon. Balaam Barugahara, the case was referred to the CID at Kampala Metropolitan Police. A general inquiry file was opened on June 17, 2025, and investigations began.
So far, 85 victims have been interviewed and their statements recorded. Police confirmed that the vast majority made their payments at the Ntinda location.
“Despite numerous demands for refunds, the company has refused to cooperate. Many victims allege they were met with threats and intimidation from Asiimwe Christian, alias Don Chris,” Onyango said.
The Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development confirmed that Skypins Tours and Travel is not licensed to operate as an external labor recruitment agency.
As a result, Don Chris is now a person of interest and officially wanted by law enforcement.
