The Uganda Medical Association (UMA) has urged the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) to take action and ban Gravity Omutujju’s new song “Doozi”.
The UMA claims that the music video, which features the rapper wearing a clinical coat and stethoscope, and Shakiraa Shakira as video vixen undermines the professionalism of the medical community.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, UMA President Herbert Luswata requested that the entertainment industry cease the misuse of medical attires. He argued that such portrayals erode public trust and demean the medical profession.
“We demand that the entertainment industry stops misusing our clinical coats and stethoscopes as this undermines the professionalism of our medical community,” said Dr. Luswata.
The controversy began last week when teaser photos from the video shoot, showing Gravity Omutujju in a doctor’s role examining Shakira Shakirah, went viral. The images likely provoked the doctors’ response.
In the song, Gravity Omutujju plays a doctor, dressed in medical attire, examining Shakirah, who is depicted bending seductively and complaining about the discomfort of the rapper’s medical attention.
