Uganda’s She Cranes overcame a slow start to secure a hard-fought 50-45 win over Malawi in the bronze medal match at the 2025 Vitality Netball Nations Cup.

Malawi dominated the opening quarter, finishing ahead 14-11 and taking a three-goal lead into the second quarter. However, Uganda regrouped during the break and came out stronger in the second half. By halftime, the She Cranes had turned the tide, leading 26-23.

A late surge in the second quarter saw Uganda level the score at 22-all with just under five minutes remaining before pulling ahead.

Uganda’s shooter, Mary Nuba, regained her confidence and found her rhythm, while Malawi’s Joyce Mvula struggled with her shooting, giving Uganda the momentum they needed to push for the win.

Both teams made substitutions as fatigue set in, and Malawi’s fresh legs brought them back within one goal at 37-38. However, Uganda held their composure in the final quarter to finish strong, clinching a 50-45 victory and securing third place.

Nuba was a standout performer, scoring 34 goals with just three misses, while team captain Irene Eyaru contributed 16 goals from 16 attempts. Center Margret Baagala also played a key role with 29 feeds and three intercepts.

In the final, hosts England avenged their earlier 61-59 loss to South Africa by defeating them 61-55, claiming the 2025 Vitality Netball Nations Cup title.
