City Traders Shut Shops in protest Against EFRIS System

City traders in Kampala’s Central Business District have staged a widespread shutdown to protest against what they deem as unjust tax measures and trading conditions.

The focal point of their discontent is the Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing Solution (EFRIS) system implemented by Uganda Revene Authority ( URA) to combat VAT evasion.

This protest differs from previous ones as it encompasses the entire city, signaling a significant impact on daily activities.

Traders have voiced concerns about tax policies and the fairness of EFRIS, along with ongoing issues in trader-manufacturer relationships.

Despite prior attempts at dialogue, the traders are demanding a meeting with the president to address their grievances and find lasting solutions.
