Speaker of Parilamennt, Anita Annet Among on Tuesday evening made a quick visit to the Uganda Cranes camp at Namboole Stadium and offered shs 50 million cash to motivate the players a head of Friday’s and Monday 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Bostwana and Algeria.
The motivation package was hand over to goalkeeper Ismail Watenga on behalf of the team by the speaker.
The speaker who was also accompanied by FUFA President Moses Magogo and Minister of State for Sports Peter Ogwang emphasized that the money is to motivate the team in their upcoming world cup qualifiers matches against Bostwana on June 7th and Algeria on June 10tg at Namboole.
She furthermore promised additional ” Winning bonuses ” ,for the team if they win both games.
We’re giving you the 50 million, but you’ll have another winning bonus” she promised, as she handed over the money in cash to Watenga. “When you win the first game, you’ll get a winning bonus, and when you win the second game you’ll get another winning bonus.”
The Speaker also emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting sports in the country, saying, “We’re doing all this for this country, so play for the country as we do our best.”
Uganda, who are currently fourth in a six-team Group G, which also includes Algeria, Botswana, Guinea, Mozambique, and Somalia, will be aiming to finish at least second in the group to secure a spot in the final round of African qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup for the first time in their history.
