The late Muhammad Ssegirinya, the Kawempe North Member of Parliament, was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Kaddugala, Butale, on Sunday, January 12, 2025.
His burial came after his passing on Thursday, January 9, at the age of 37, following a prolonged battle with various health complications.

The funeral was marked by emotional tributes, speeches, and an outpouring of grief from his family, friends,supporters and politicians. Thousands of mourners, including fellow MPs and religious leaders, attended to pay their final respects to the fallen politician.
However, the event was marred by political tensions and disagreements over the burial arrangements, leading to the organization of two parallel funeral gatherings—one at his parents’ home and the other at a community playground, located about four kilometers apart.
During the ceremony at the ancestral home, Ssegirinya’s mother, Justine Ssanyu Nakajumba, expressed her gratitude to Bobi Wine and Mathias Mpuuga for their unwavering support during her son’s health struggles. Both Bobi Wine and Mpuuga assured the family of their continued assistance.
Ssegirinya was laid to rest around 3 p.m. in the presence of hundreds of mourners, many of whom wore the colors of the National Unity Platform (NUP), the political party he represented.
