The Uganda Police Force has introduced new rules aimed at reducing security risks and enhancing public safety by limiting the number of individuals in a musician’s entourage.
According to Patrick Onyango, the spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police, artists are now restricted to traveling with no more than five people.
The entourage is expected to include a DJ, manager, secretary, treasurer, and one security personnel.
“Any artist found in violation of this directive will be immediately arrested and charged,” Onyango warned.
The move follows a violent altercation between the entourages of well-known singers Pallaso and Alien Skin at the “Empele” festival in Buloba, Wakiso District, last week. The incident led to property damage and injuries, raising public concern.
Uganda Police explained that the new regulations are intended to prevent similar incidents and ensure a peaceful environment at entertainment events.
Artists and their teams have been urged to comply fully with these new rules to avoid facing legal actions.
The announcement has generated mixed responses, with some supporting the initiative for prioritizing safety, while others argue that it may restrict the freedom of artists.
As the enforcement of these measures begins, Uganda’s security agencies remain committed to maintaining order in the entertainment industry.
