Renowned Ugandan socialite and businesswoman,Zari Hassan is firmly standing her ground in a heated dispute with her in-laws over the property of her late husband, Ivan Semwanga.
Ivan Semwanga, who passed away on May 25, 2017, at Steve Biko Hospital in Pretoria, had established multiple ventures, including numerous educational institutions in South Africa.
Pinto Ntale, the eldest son of Ivan Semwanga and Zari Hassan, was named the official heir to Semwanga’s property. Since then, Zari has been the custodian of these properties, grooming her sons to manage the businesses.
However, a leaked audio recording circulating on social media revealed that Zari has fallen out with some of her in-laws, accusing them of fighting her over the property. Zari emphasized that she and her children hold shares in all of Semwanga’s properties and that she has been responsible for looking after her in-laws, distributing a portion of the property profits to them.
She pointed out that some in-laws, like Kinene and Semwanga’s youngest brother, were receiving USD 10,000 and 5,000 a month respectively from Brooklyn University in South Africa. These benefits were revoked due to their poor conduct.
Zari suggested that her in-laws should have supported her in managing the properties but instead are seeking worthless advice from Kinene and sending her vulgar messages. She made it clear that she is not willing to yield to their demands and advised them to seek the benefits they desire from Semwanga’s final resting place in Kayunga.
