The Uganda Police have confirmed that they conducted a search at the National Unity Platform (NUP) headquarters on Friday, February 21, amid suspicions of illegal military training taking place at the party’s premises.

The search follows a video that surfaced showing NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, inspecting a parade by his supporters dressed in red overalls at the party office on February 20, in celebration of his 42nd birthday.

In a press release, the Uganda Police Force stated that the searches were carried out in response to reports of unauthorized military drills occurring at the locationd

NUP President Bobi Wine expressed his concern on his official X account, claiming that security forces were monitoring his residence, allegedly armed with guns.

He further condemned the raids on the party offices, accusing the security forces of forcibly entering the premises after conducting hours of searches in other areas, possibly planting incriminating evidence.

In another development, NUP has claimed that 40 elders from the Teso Sub-region, who had visited the party offices and Bobi Wine, were arrested and are currently being held at Wandegeya Police Station.

NUP Secretary-General David Rubongoya reported that after boarding their bus to return home, the group was surrounded by the military, who took them away, forbidding them from making any phone calls. After hours of attempting to locate them, it was revealed that they had been abducted and later dropped off at the police station.
