Former NBS TV presenter and musician Robert Sekidde alias Tuff B has declared his intention to contest as an independent candidate in the 2026 general elections after failing to secure the National Unity Platform (NUP) parliamentary flag for Makindye East.

The NUP ticket was instead handed to Ali Mulyanyama, the current Mayor of Makindye Division.

Earlier this year, Tuff B resigned from his position at Next Media’s NBS TV to fully focus on his political ambitions under NUP. He had expressed his commitment to serve the people of Makindye East and address challenges affecting the community.

However, his aspirations suffered a setback after he was denied the party flag, a decision he believes was influenced by an unfair and non-transparent vetting process.

Speaking during an interview on Sanyuka with Oze TV, Tuff B confirmed that he will proceed with his campaign as an independent candidate, saying his decision was motivated by his desire to fulfill his political mission and serve his people

Despite parting ways with the party’s ticket, he emphasized that he still holds deep respect for NUP and its leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, who has often encouraged members to prioritize principles over party loyalty.

Tuff B now joins a growing list of former NUP aspirants who have opted to run independently after failing to secure party endorsement.
