Musician-turned-politician Stecia Mayanja has responded firmly to critics who continue to use her turbulent past to undermine her recent entry into politics.

After being unveiled as the president of the newly formed National Peasants’ Party (NPP), Stecia faced backlash online, with many questioning her suitability for a leadership role. Critics cited her history of failed relationships and personal struggles as evidence that she was unfit for public office.

But Stecia mayanja has not shied away from these conversations. Instead, she and her supporters have openly acknowledged her past, emphasizing that personal failures do not define a person’s ability to lead.

“Everything they’re saying is what I’ve already told them,I know my past better than anyone. Yes, I’ve stumbled in life, but I’ve never stopped rising again.”,she said.

Stecia also expressed empathy for others who have experienced similar hardships, saying she speaks about her past openly because it reflects the reality of many Ugandans. What she finds disappointing, however, is the tendency of some to weaponize her experiences against her.

“I share my story in interviews not out of shame, but because it’s the truth of so many others in this country. I don’t understand why my past is being used against me,Leadership isn’t about having a flawless history. I didn’t step into politics to seek approval or applause.”, she said.
