Following the passing of Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya, Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among has committed to supporting the education of his daughter, Nagirinya, ensuring her studies continue uninterrupted.
This pledge was made during a special parliamentary session held in honor of the late Kawempe North MP as his body was brought to Parliament.
In her address, Among assured that she would take responsibility for Nagirinya’s education, planning to transfer her to a school in Bukedea after she finishes her primary education.
“As a family in Parliament, we stand by our own. I will personally oversee Nagirinya’s education until she completes her studies,” Among stated.
Additionally, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the Minister for ICT and National Guidance, also expressed his commitment to supporting the education of another of Ssegirinya’s children, pledging to cover the costs until their schooling is complete.
The special parliamentary session, held after Ssegirinya’s body arrived, was filled with emotional tributes from lawmakers who praised the late MP for his dedication and significant contributions to Uganda’s political landscape.
To further assist Ssegirinya’s family, Parliamentarians collectively agreed to donate UGX 300,000 each from their salaries.
A vigil for Ssegirinya has been organized at the NUP headquarters in Makerere Kavule, with burial plans set for Sunday, January 12, 2025, at his ancestral home in Masaka.
