Shock and Grief as DJ Bush Baby Passes Away

Uganda’s entertainment industry is reeling from the sudden death of acclaimed disc jockey and media personality DJ Bush Baby, who was found dead Thursday morning at his recording studio in Entebbe.

The veteran DJ, whose real name was Michael Owori, was discovered unresponsive by friends after repeated attempts to reach him by phone failed.

Police responded to the scene and have since cordoned off the area to conduct further investigations.

“We are treating this as a case of sudden death.  The body will be taken to the mortuary for a postmortem as inquiries continue.”,” a senior police officer confirmed.

DJ Bush Baby was a trailblazer in Uganda’s urban music scene. Launching his career in the late 1990s, he rose to prominence at Capital FM, where his distinctive mixing style and deep knowledge of global music trends earned him a loyal following.

He was instrumental in introducing and popularizing genres like hip hop, R&B, and urban contemporary music to mainstream audiences across the country.

His influence extended beyond radio. DJ Bush Baby was a mentor to emerging DJs and artists, a key figure in organizing urban music events, and a producer known for supporting young talent. He later worked with media houses such as Urban TV and UBC, where he continued to spotlight local music and provide platforms for both established and up-and-coming artists.
