Ugandan socialite and media personality Sheilah Gashumba has publicly criticized Uganda Airlines for its inconsistent services.
In a post she shared on her X page, Gashumba highlighted the poor quality of the airline’s business class seats, likening them to economy class. She advised her followers to opt for economy class instead, as there was no noticeable difference between the two, making business class a waste of money.
She also pointed out that Uganda Airlines uses smaller planes on the South African route, reserving the larger aircraft for flights to Lagos and Lusaka, at least for now.
Gashumba’s comments sparked backlash from some of her followers, who accused her of publicly embarrassing the airline.
In response, she defended herself, explaining that she has always praised the airline when warranted. Her main concern, she said, is the inconsistency in service delivery.
“I’ve tweeted positive things about Uganda Airlines since they launched, for free, by the way,” Gashumba explained. “My issue is with their lack of consistency. I’ve flown with them to South Africa over 10 times since they started, and they always used bigger planes. My disappointment is that those planes are now being used for newer routes, neglecting the older ones. So my advice still stands: just book economy class instead of business class!”
She continued, “How can the same flight to Kenya, which lasts 45 minutes, use the same plane for a 4-hour journey? And it’s not cheap either! It’s a complete rip-off.”
