According to an official letter from the Office of the NRM Secretary General, dated October 4, 2025, the rallies that were set to take place on Monday, October 6, in Kole and Lira/Lira City have been postponed.

The communication, signed by NRM Secretary General Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, was addressed to the party’s district and city chairpersons in the affected areas.

Titled “Adjustment of the Presidential Campaign Dates in Kole, Lira/Lira City,” the letter states:

“This is to notify you that the date for the Presidential Campaign Rallies that had been scheduled to take place on Monday, October 6th, 2025, in Kole and Lira/Lira City has been adjusted. This is due to H.E. the President’s need to attend to critical state duties on the set day. A new date shall be communicated to you soon.”

Local NRM leaders were instructed to inform the public about the postponement and await further guidance on the revised schedule.

President Museveni, who also serves as the NRM National Chairman, has been touring the Lango sub-region as part of his early campaign efforts ahead of the 2026 general elections. This marks the first significant disruption to his campaign trail, drawing attention and speculation among local communities and political observers.

Community leaders in Kole and Lira, many of whom had mobilized residents for the rallies, expressed mixed reactions.

“The President’s national responsibilities must take precedence. We remain hopeful that he will return to Lango soon,” said one NRM official in Lira.

The Lango sub-region, especially urban centers like Lira City, has traditionally been a competitive political landscape, with strong opposition support. Analysts suggest Museveni’s rallies were a strategic effort to reinforce grassroots backing in the lead-up to the elections.

This postponement underscores the ongoing challenge of balancing governance and campaigning as the country moves closer to the 2026 polls.

The NRM Secretariat is expected to announce new rally dates in the coming days and we shall keep you posted here.
