Uganda Police have detained Elias Luyimbaazi Nalukoola, the National Unity Platform candidate for the Kawempe North Parliamentary by-election, shortly after his nomination.
The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon at the Electoral Commission offices in Kyebando.
The lawyer was apprehended by police officers as soon as he was nominated, and he was forcibly placed in a “drone” van before being transported to Kawempe CPS for detention.
In an attempt to disperse a small crowd of supporters and journalists, police fired tear gas and live ammunition. Several individuals, including a reporter from Top TV, were reported injured during the altercation.

Nalukoola was later released and driven away by his supporters.
