NUP Addresses Allegations Regarding Party Constitution

Amidst circulating rumors on social media questioning the existence of a functioning constitution within the National Unity Platform (NUP), the party leadership has spoken out.

In a statement shared on the party’s social media platforms, NUP clarified that they do indeed possess a constitution that guides their operations.

They emphasized the necessity of a constitution for any political party to function effectively.

Acknowledging the adoption of a constitution inherited during their assumption of leadership in 2020, NUP admitted to its flaws. However, they assured the public that steps were taken to address these issues. In 2023, amendments were made and the revised constitution was duly gazetted by the Electoral Commission.

While administrative procedures are being finalized, both the current and amended versions of the constitution are available and accessible at the Electoral Commission and the Party Office.

Recent controversies surrounding the removal of NUP’s deputy vice president in charge of Buganda region from his position as parliamentary commissioner have raised concerns about constitutionalism within the party and sparked debate among party member and public at large.
