Musician-turned-politician Nina Kankunda, popularly known as Nina Roz, has officially joined the political race under the National Unity Platform (NUP) banner. She is set to contest for the District Woman MP seat in Sembabule District in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
Nina Roz is among a select group of Ugandan creatives who have received the party’s endorsement to run for political office.
Speaking about her candidacy, she expressed deep gratitude and shared a message of inspiration, particularly directed at young girls and women facing challenges.
“I am an inspiration to young girls, and I want them to keep their hopes alive, “I’ve come from humble beginnings, yet the party has trusted me with this responsibility. I won’t give up I’ll fight to represent Sembabule and bring victory to the National Unity Platform.”,Nina said.
While her endorsement marks a significant step forward, Nina faces a tough political battle ahead. Sembabule District has traditionally been a stronghold of the ruling party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM). In the previous elections, NUP only managed to win one constituency in the district, with the rest claimed by NRM.
Despite the odds, Nina Roz remains confident and hopeful, aiming to become a voice for women and youth who feel overlooked or unheard.
She is not alone in this journey. Other creatives endorsed by NUP for various positions include Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa, Mathias Walukagga, Geoffrey Lutaaya, and Muyonjo Hussein, also known as Swengere, among others.
The party, headquartered in Makerere Kavule, continues to attract figures from the entertainment and media world who are transitioning into politics.
With the endorsements now confirmed, all candidates are expected to begin mobilizing and launching their campaigns as they prepare for the 2026 general elections.
