Ugandan singer Nina Kankunda, popularly known as Nina Roz, has officially entered the political arena, announcing her intention to contest for the Sembabule District Woman Member of Parliament seat in the 2026 General Elections.
The seat is currently held by Mary Begumisa of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
Nina Roz’s announcement follows months of hinting at her political ambitions, including her decision to return to school in preparation for a more active role in public service. Her recent declaration marks a significant step in that journey.
On Friday morning, Nina Roz unveiled her campaign posters, prominently featuring the red colors of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and a portrait of NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine—highlighting her allegiance to the opposition party.
Known for encouraging fellow artists to engage in politics, Nina Roz has often emphasized the importance of creatives being part of the decision-making process to help bring positive change to their communities.
“I genuinely believe fans would love to see their favorite musicians step into the political struggle. It’s a way to give back by standing with them and addressing their concerns.”she previously said.

While her entry into politics has been met with enthusiasm from many supporters online, attention now turns to how she will translate that momentum into tangible support ahead of the 2026 polls.
