Mandela National Stadium in Namboole has officially been cleared by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to host matches during the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The decision follows a successful final inspection, marking a significant milestone as Uganda prepares to co-host the tournament alongside Kenya and Tanzania from August 2 to 30, 2025.
CAF concluded its eight-day inspection tour of the East African co-hosts with a comprehensive visit to Uganda on July 9.
The delegation comprising experts from CAF’s Competitions, Media, Marketing, Broadcast, Infrastructure, and Safety & Security departments was accompanied by members of Uganda’s Local Organising Committee to assess the country’s preparedness.
Namboole Stadium, which has undergone extensive renovations, has been confirmed as one of the key venues for the CHAN finals. CAF commended the Ugandan government and local organisers for their commitment and efficient progress in getting the stadium tournament-ready.

This approval is a major boost for Uganda, which will be co-hosting CHAN for the first time a landmark moment in the nation’s football journey and a testament to its growing ability to stage major continental competitions.
CHAN is a unique tournament featuring national teams made up exclusively of players active in their home leagues. With Namboole now certified by CAF, it joins a select group of top-tier venues across the region.
Other approved venues include Kenya’s Kasarani Stadium, which will host the final, and Nyayo International Stadium. Tanzania’s Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam will stage the opening ceremony, while Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar has also been given the green light.
With just weeks remaining until kickoff, East Africa is gearing up for a historic moment as it prepares to host a major CAF competition for the first time ever.
