President Yoweri Museveni and ruling Party NRM Presidential Candidate has bragged about Uganda’s massive economic progress, saying the country’s economy has expanded over 20 times since the NRM took charge in 1986.

Speaking to NRM leaders in Mbale, Museveni revealed that Uganda’s economic output is expected to hit USD 66 billion by June next year, up from USD 3.9 billion in 1986.

Museveni credited the growth to heavy investment in factories, roads and electricity especially the Karuma Hydropower Plant which now powers major industries.

He noted that districts like Kamuli have shifted from 2,000 factory workers in 1996 to over 44,000 workers today, proving the success of Uganda’s industrialisation drive.
