President Yoweri Museveni has warned Masaka residents that voting for opposition leaders is costing the area critical development opportunities.
Speaking at Masaka Liberation Grounds on Monday, Museveni said the district would have achieved more if voters chose NRM leaders.
“You would have got more if you voted for leaders who know what to do. However, you vote for the opposition, which doesn’t know what to do,” he said.

Museveni highlighted examples of local development, including support for St. Henry’s College Kitovu, which received modern facilities directly from the government without an MP lobbying for it.
He also pointed to road projects, including the Kampala–Masaka, Mutukula–Kyotera–Masaka, and Mpigi–Kanoni–Villa Maria–Nyendo roads, some of which are set for rehabilitation.
The President urged residents to “redeem themselves” by electing leaders who can effectively voice local concerns in Parliament. Currently, Masaka City and District are represented entirely by opposition MPs.
Speaker of Parliament Anita Among echoed Museveni, noting that weak parliamentary representation has slowed development despite government investments. She praised initiatives like coffee processing factories and USMID projects but said opposition MPs often claim credit for government work.

Masaka District NRM Chairman Herman Muwulya highlighted infrastructure gaps, including the need for more tarmac roads and seed secondary schools. He also called for an increase in the Shs1 billion road fund to meet growing maintenance and construction needs.
Museveni also encouraged residents to participate in wealth creation programs, promising to increase Parish Development Model funding from Shs100 million to Shs300 million per parish.
