President Yoweri Museveni, the Commander in Chief of Uganda’s Armed Forces, has promoted five Senior Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP), the third-highest position in the Uganda Police Force.

In addition to the promotions, Museveni has made several key appointments within the force.

Apora James has been named Director of Logistics & Engineering, while Lawrence Niwabiine assumes the role of Director of Traffic Police. Joseph Obwona has been appointed Director of Interpol & International Relations, and Steven Tanui has been appointed Director of Fire and Rescue Services. Geoffrey Musana will serve as Deputy Director of Logistics & Engineering.

Four of these officers—Apora, Niwabiine, Obwona, and Tanui—had previously been serving in acting capacities.

Their promotions to AIGP now formalize their roles, aligning with the police force’s requirement that directors hold the AIGP rank.
