Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi, has dropped another bombshell, accusing Mathias Mpuuga and three other parliamentary commissioners of secretly awarding themselves a second “service award” of Shs 400 million each.

According to Ssenyonyi, the total payout amounts to Shs 1.6 billion of taxpayers’ money, allegedly processed through the Parliamentary SACCO to avoid public scrutiny.

Taking to his social media, the LoP named the beneficiaries as Mathias Mpuuga (former NUP member and LOP), Solomon Silwanyi, Prossy Akampurira, and Esther Afoyochan.

“I have been reliably informed that some weeks back, the 4 commissioners received a second service award of Shs 400 million each, which was channeled through the Parliamentary SACCO so as to avoid a clear paper trail,” Ssenyonyi stated.

He further claimed the money was intended to facilitate them during the campaign season

Ssenyonyi also dismissed online rumors alleging that he too had received a Shs 650 million service award, saying such propaganda was meant to divert public attention.

“This is completely false, and it is meant to cover up for this second service award that the Commissioners gave themselves. Even if they quietly send such money to my account, I will instruct my bank to immediately return it,” he emphasized.

The LoP, however, revealed that he would not petition the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) over the matter, expressing little faith in the institution’s effectiveness despite new leadership under Aisha Naluzze Batala.

This revelation adds fuel to the ongoing Parliament “service award” scandal, which has already drawn heavy criticism from the public over misuse of public funds.
