Princess Diana was the last-born child of the late Ssekabaka Edward Muteesa II and Princess Catherine Karungu of Ankole. She was born in October 1966 while her father was in exile and never met him before his death.

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, confirmed the passing and conveyed condolences on behalf of the Kabaka, the royal family and the entire Kingdom. He appealed to the public to remain calm and respect the privacy of the royal household during this time of mourning.
