Tensions are escalating within Uganda’s ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) following a police investigation into Justine Namere, a Masaka woman MP aspirant and former media personality .
Namere is the prime suspect in an aggravated robbery case filed by singer-turned-politician Jennifer Nakangubi, better known as Full Figure.
According to Full Figure, the incident occurred Friday evening at the NRM Electoral Commission offices in Kampala. She claims she was lured there under false pretenses by businessman Moses Karangwa, a known political ally and campaign supporter of Namere.
Karangwa allegedly invited her for a meeting with NRM Electoral Commission chairman, Dr. Tanga Odoi.However, Full Figure told police that what appeared to be a formal political meeting turned into a violent ambush.
She alleges that upon arrival, she was attacked by a group of kanyamas (musclemen) who acted on Namere’s orders. The assailants reportedly dragged her into a secluded corner, beat her severely, and left her calling for help.
She says the attack lasted several minutes and left her physically injured and emotionally shaken.
The case has been registered at Kampala Central Police Station under reference number Gef/242/2025. In her complaint, Full Figure accuses Justine Namere not only of orchestrating the attack but also of leading the group that assaulted her “like a chicken thief” and stole her belongings.
She is demanding Namere’s immediate arrest and imprisonment in Luzira, citing “torture and humiliation.”
Kampala Metropolitan Police have confirmed they are actively investigating the case. Authorities plan to summon Justine Namere, Karangwa, and other individuals named in the complaint to provide statements.
Police are also probing claims that the assault may have been an attempted assassination, adding further weight to what initially seemed like a routine political feud.
Insiders suggest the incident is rooted in a bitter fallout between the two women during the recently concluded NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) elections at Kololo. Full Figure and Namere backed rival candidates, and their rivalry has now turned personal threatening to erupt into full-blown violence.
As the investigation unfolds, the incident has sent shockwaves through the NRM and the broader political landscape. Party loyalists are calling for calm, discipline, and unity.
While it remains unclear whether Justine Namere will face arrest or prosecution, the case has laid bare deep divisions within President Museveni’s inner circle and raised concerns about the growing intolerance in Uganda’s political environment.
