Geoffrey Lutaaya , a musician who turned Politican is facing public criticism following allegations from a teenage girl claiming to be his biological daughter.
The 17-year-old, identified as Nambasa Mellan Lutaaya , recently appeared in a viral video accusing Lutaaya of failing to pay her school fees and neglecting both her and her mother.
In the emotional clip, Nambasa claims she has been unable to attend school due to lack of tuition, stating that her single mother has struggled to pay her fees in small amounts, resulting in her poor academic performance.
She further alleged that both she and her mother have been cut off from any communication with Hon. Lutaaya.
The video sparked public backlash, with many criticizing Lutaaya for neglecting his alleged daughter while maintaining a high public profile. Some questioned his suitability for political leadership, arguing that leaders should lead by example. Others went as far as attacking his wife, fellow musician Irene Namatovu, accusing her of being unsympathetic.
In response, Lutaaya quickly released a statement refuting the allegations. He provided what he claimed were receipts proving he had paid full tuition for Nambatya at Stella Maris Nsuube, a reputable boarding school in Mukono.
According to him, it was the girl’s mother who later withdrew her from that school and enrolled her in a lower-tier institution, Boston High School, located in Mpala along Entebbe Road.
Lutaaya also revealed that during the COVID-19 lockdown, the mother demanded UGX 6 million, claiming it was reimbursement for expenses incurred while raising the child. Although he believed the amount was excessive, Lutaaya said he paid it to avoid public scandal, especially since he had just been elected to Parliament.
In the same audio, Lutaaya appealed to the mother to allow Nambasa to come and live with him and his family, saying he had never had a chance to raise her himself. He also disclosed plans to sponsor her education abroad, noting that her mother likely could not afford such an opportunity.
