Renowned Ugandan Young rapper Patrick Ssenyondo alias Fresh Kid, has impressed with his performance in the 2024 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), securing a Division One grade.

The official PLE results were released on Thursday by the Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni.

Fresh Kid, who completed his primary education at Kampala Parents School, scored an impressive Aggregate 11, earning a first-grade classification.

He received Distinction Two in both English and Science, while his scores in Social Studies and Mathematics were D3 and D4, respectively.

Upon hearing the results, Fresh Kid was seen in high spirits, accompanied by his father as they arrived at the school to check the outcomes.

Six years ago, Fresh Kid began his education at Kampala Parents School on a scholarship after gaining fame as a singer at the young age of seven. His schooling followed a public debate, prompted by then Youth and Children’s Affairs Minister Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi, about whether he should continue his music career or focus on education.

Last November, teachers Mary Nakitende and Jessica Nakayenga praised Fresh Kid’s commitment to his studies, attributing his academic success to his discipline and focus.

“He was disciplined and focused… He’d say, ‘Teacher, I can’t get involved – I don’t want to lose my scholarship,’” Nakitende said.

At 12, He gained national fame in 2018 after his manager, Francis, discovered him performing songs by renowned rapper Fik Fameica in his village.

His rise to stardom was swift, and by the following year, he signed with De Texas Entertainment, which helped launch some of his biggest hits.

However, in the same year, then Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi cautioned Fresh Kid against performing during school hours, citing Uganda’s Labour Laws, which prohibit anyone under 18 from working.

He later received a scholarship from Rajiv Ruparelia to attend Kampala Parents School, where he completed his primary education.

Last month, Ms. Nakiwala, now serving as a presidential advisor, announced that Fresh Kid is being considered for a secondary school scholarship at Cambridge International School Kampala.
