The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has announced its intention to seek legal recourse following what it called a disappointing outcome in the Kawempe North by-election.
The party’s candidate, Sadat Mukiibi, also known as Aganaga, faced a significant defeat, securing only 239 out of 27,596 votes cast in the election. This election, held to fill the seat left vacant by the late Muhammad Ssegirinya, was won by Luyimbazi Nalukoola of the National Unity Platform (NUP), who earned 17,764 votes.
At a press conference at the FDC headquarters in Najjanankumbi, FDC president Patrick Amuriat Oboi expressed frustration with the election results, arguing that they did not accurately reflect the party’s support in the constituency.
“The results can never be a reflection of our strength in the division,” Amuriat said.
He attributed Mukiibi’s poor showing to the heavy security presence, which he claimed created an intimidating atmosphere for FDC supporters.
Amuriat further alleged that security personnel were involved in the electoral process from the nomination stage through to election day, undermining the fairness of the vote.

The election was marred by violence, and at least 15 polling stations had their results excluded from the final tally by the Electoral Commission. One of these stations, according to FDC, was where Mukiibi himself cast his vote.
Amuriat stated that the party would take legal action, demanding compensation for the resources expended during the by-election.
“We shall be embarking on the court process, demanding compensation for the costs incurred during the process,” he declared.
The ruling party also voiced dissatisfaction with the election results and has expressed its intention to challenge them in court.
