The following Athletes have participated both locally, Nationally and Internationally in most Athletic competitions which they have championed and here, we take you through.
1. Jacob Kiplimo
Born 14th November 2000, Jacob Kiplimo is a Ugandan long distance runner who is also the current record holder in the half marathon. Kiplimo won a Bronze medal in the 10,000m 2020 Tokyo Olympic and 2022 World Athletics Championships events.
He won gold medals in the 5000m and 10,000m events at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, won a silver and gold medal at the 2019 and 2023 World Cross Country Championships and the winner of the 2020 world half Marathon.
2. Joshua Cheptegei
A Ugandan long distance runner, born on 12th September 1996, Joshua Cheptegei is the current world record holder for the 5000meters and 10,000meters who also holds the world’s best time over the 15kilometers distance.
3. Halimah Nakaayi
Born on 16th October 1994, Halimah Nakaayi is a Ugandan middle distance runner who specializes in the 800meters and she is the 2019 World Champion event who also won a bronze medal at the 2022 World indoor Championships.
Halimah Nakaayi is the current Ugandan record holder for the 800meter both indoors and outdoors and the 1000meters too.
4. Davis Kamoga
A Ugandan Athlete competing in the 400meters. Davis Kamoga won the Bronze medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta Georgia.
He was born on 17th July 1968.
5. Stephen Kiprotich
Born on 27th February 1989, he is a Ugandan long distance runner, an olympic marathon champion after winning the golden medal at the 2012 London Olympics.
Kiprotich also won a gold medal at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics.
6. Dorcus Inzikuru
A Ugandan track and field Athlete. She won the inaugural world title in women’s 3000meters Steeplechase as well as the first commonwealth title in the event.
7. Solomon Mutai
He is a Ugandan long distance runner who started his career over shorter distances and at the 2009 Ugandan Championships, he placed a ninth over 1500meters and fourth in the 3000meters steeplechase.
Solomon Mutai was runners up at the National 5000meters at the age of 18years.
In this case therefore, the above mentioned athletes managed to fly the Ugandan flag high with Uganda topping international Marathons.
