The Busiro East political drama has taken a sharp twist after the Electoral Commission officially disqualified NUP flag bearer Sir Mathias Walukagga from the 2026 parliamentary race.
According to a letter issued on 25th November 2025, Walukaga was kicked out following a petition challenging the validity of his academic documents. The petitioner claimed the singer-turned-politician used an expired Mature Age Entry Certificate during his nomination on 23rd October 2025.

Walukagga’s lawyers insisted the certificate was still valid since it had been used to gain him university admission. They argued that the Kadongo Kamu star is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration using the same document.
However, after several meetings held between 7th–15th November, the Electoral Commission ruled that the certificate issued by IUIU had expired on 12th June 2025 — two years after issuance.
The EC stressed that:

A Mature Age/Aptitude Test certificate expires after two years
An NCHE certificate cannot revive an expired academic qualification
Court precedent backs this position
With that, the Commission concluded that by nomination day, Walukagga did not meet the minimum academic qualifications required under the Parliamentary Elections Act.
He has now been officially removed from the Busiro East race.
The development comes after weeks of heated exchanges between Walukagga and outgoing MP Hon. Medard Lubega Ssegona, who earlier accused him of lacking proper academic papers claims Walukagga had strongly denied.
NUP’s next move remains unclear. The Bobi Wine–led party could either appeal the ruling or front a fresh candidate for Busiro East.
After the removal of Mathias Walukagga from the race, the battle for Busiro East has now been left between Magoola Emmanuel (independent), Hajji Abudu Kiyimba of the NRM, and Medard Ssegona (independent).

All eyes are now on how the Busiro East political battlefield reshapes after this shock disqualification.
