Daniella Atim, former wife of Ugandan singer Jose Chameleone, recently revealed that she secured a restraining order against him after he allegedly threatened to harm her during a visit to the U.S.
Speaking out on her Instagram account, Daniella shared her journey to encourage women facing domestic violence, showing them that they too can take action.
In her post, Daniella shared details about her path to independence, overcoming abuse, and rebuilding her life with her children:
Daniella’s Full Story:
“Social media is pretty fake, so here are some real facts about me (to motivate any woman out there to take action):
1.I mentally and emotionally detached from my abusive marriage in 2016, and started making plans while keeping up appearances. It’s dangerous to let them know you’re done.
2.I took a 6-month trip to familiarize myself with what would be my new life. That same year, I gathered my children and left for good in 2018.
3.Without raising any suspicion, I walked out with only the clothes on my back, staying temporarily at my brother’s. I only told him the morning of the trip to avoid being talked out of it.
4.I stayed with a friend, doing all types of odd jobs for months, carrying my baby on my back as I waited for legal work authorization.
5.I worked two full-time jobs, often leaving home for days at a time. My then-14-year-old son would care for his siblings in my absence.
6.As things improved, I enrolled all five of my kids in private schools and found a supportive church and school community.
7.In 2021, I became a homeowner. That same year, I pressed charges against certain individuals and businesses, resulting in felony charges in federal court.
8.In 2023, I secured a restraining order against my ex after he threatened me in my own space. I also cut off all contact.
9.Now, I’m working on gaining licensure to become a business owner – taking baby steps in the right direction.
10.I also allowed myself to feel love again.
Dear girl child, I was scared too. I didn’t know what I was doing, but I’m glad I took that leap of faith. My only regret is not leaving sooner.”
Through this powerful message, Daniella aims to inspire others who may be in similar situations, reassuring them that they, too, have the strength to start over and thrive.
