The Head of Mobilization for the National Unity Platform (NUP)Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu alias Chairman Nyanzi, has expressed his disappointment after his son, Ssentamu Churchill James, the Guild President of Makerere University was seen in a photo with President Yoweri Museveni.
The photo, which surfaced on social media on Tuesday, quickly went viral, raising questions about why a relative of opposition leader Bobi Wine would pose for a picture with Museveni.
The image featured Churchill alongside Museveni and other student leaders during the President’s visit to launch the Research and Innovations Week at the university.

While some defended the gesture, arguing that as Guild President, Churchill had no choice but to participate in the photo opportunity, others criticized him for associating with a leader they view as oppressive.
Chairman Nyanzi, visibly upset shared a video expressing his sorrow over his son’s decision to appear in the photo.
He pointed out that the Ugandans who are fighting for change, including himself, Bobi Wine, and many others, have suffered under President Museveni’s regime.
“My son, the man you took a photo with has caused immense suffering to me, your uncle Bobi Wine, and countless Ugandans. He has arrested and tortured us. It’s painful that you allowed yourself to be part of this photo.”Nyanzi said
Nyanzi went on to urge his son to issue a public apology and that If he refuses, he suggested that he should resign from his role as Guild President and focus solely on his academic responsibilities.

Ssentamu Churchill James, who was elected the 91st Guild President of Makerere University on an independent ticket, was backed by the NUP pressure group, People Power, during the race, which ultimately saw Ismail Basalirwa endorsed as their candidate.
