Bobi Wine’s Bodyguard Eddy Mutwe Charged with Aggravated Robbery, Remanded to Masaka Main Prison

Edward Ssebuufu, popularly known as Eddy Mutwe and the head of security for National Unity Platform (NUP) president Bobi Wine, has been charged with robbery and aggravated robbery after being missing for over a week.

Mutwe reappeared in Masaka today, where he was taken before Grade One Magistrate Abdullah Kayiza. He arrived at court in a saloon car, visibly weak and unable to walk without assistance from police officers.

His lawyers revealed that he was charged with robbery and aggravated robbery, allegedly linked to an incident in Manja, Lwengo District. These same charges had previously been brought against other NUP members, including Acleo Kivumbi, Wasabi, and Gafaffi.

Journalists were denied access to the courtroom during the proceedings.

NUP leader Bobi Wine commented on the situation, stating, “Our brother Eddy Mutwe has been dumped in Masaka, and remanded to Masaka Main Prison, badly tortured and in great pain. Journalists were blocked from covering him.”

Mutwe told his legal team that he had been subjected to severe torture while in captivity, including beatings with electric cables, electrocution, and repeated abuse of his private parts.

Following the reading of charges, he was remanded to Masaka Main Prison.
