Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine and leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has reaffirmed his commitment to winning the 2026 presidential election and this time, ensuring that the victory is officially recognized.
Speaking to journalists after being nominated as NUP’s presidential candidate, Bobi Wine said he is confident about ending President Yoweri Museveni’s decades-long rule.
“I am very confident that, together with the people of Uganda, we shall deliver the desired victory in the elections,” he stated.
Reflecting on the 2021 elections, Bobi Wine claimed he had won but was not declared the victor. “In 2021, we won but we were not declared. So our mission in 2026 is to win and make sure we get declared,” he emphasized.
In the 2021 polls, the Electoral Commission announced President Museveni as the winner with 5.85 million votes. Bobi Wine was the runner-up, securing 3.48 million votes.
As he prepares for a second challenge against Museveni, Bobi Wine believes momentum is on his side, expressing optimism that Ugandans are ready for change.
Meanwhile, President Museveni is expected to pick up nomination forms this Saturday to seek a seventh term in office under the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
