At least 32 supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) have been arrested after chaotic scenes and alleged vandalism erupted during Bobi Wine real name Robert Kyagulanyi’s campaign trail in Arua District and Arua City on 19th November 2025.

Bobi Wine kicked off his day at Okazara Primary School grounds in Vurra Sub-county, but he was unable to address the excited crowd waiting for him. He later moved through Ovisoni Trading Centre, greeted supporters in Giligili, passed by Ediofe Mission, and continued toward Onduparaka Trading Centre, drawing massive crowds cheering him on.

According to police, things got heated when Kyagulanyi allegedly attempted to access Arua City through a route that had not been approved by the district security committee.

“He tried to use an unapproved route, and when blocked, he made a U-turn but later diverted again,” said SSP Josephine Angucia, West Nile Region Police Spokesperson.

Police claim Bobi Wine later disguised himself by hopping onto a numberless boda boda, wearing a helmet, and slipping through the city centre before resurfacing at the NUP offices in Oli Central Division, where he climbed an unfinished building to briefly address his supporters.

From there, he reportedly led a huge, rowdy procession along Rhino Camp Road all the way to Inzikuru Stadium, Barifa, which was the designated rally venue.

The situation spiraled when some supporters allegedly hurled stones at police patrols, damaging four police vehicles, including: UP 03271,UP M/V 03346, UP M/V 00173, UP M/V 7697.

Police say CCTV footage helped identify several suspects who were later arrested.

“So far, 32 suspects have been arrested and are detained at Arua CPS,” SSP Angucia confirmed.

She added that more suspects may be identified as CCTV analysis continues.

Attempts to reach NUP spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi for a comment were unsuccessful, as his known phone number went unanswered.

Despite the chaos, police confirmed that no injuries were recorded during the clashes.

SSP Angucia urged all political actors to follow campaign guidelines to avoid unnecessary confrontations.

“Hooliganism disrupts lawful activities and can lead to accidents or loss of lives,” she warned.

The day later ended peacefully as security forces called for continued cooperation ahead of the 2026 general elections.
