Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, has announced her intention to challenge Rebecca Kadaga for the position of National Vice Chairperson (Female) of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Among made this declaration during a meeting with the executive team of the Uganda Urban Council Speakers Association at Parliament on Wednesday.
She clarified that while the Association had encouraged her to contest for the NRM Vice Chairperson position for the Eastern Region, her focus is on the higher role of National Vice Chairperson (Female).
“I’m not standing for the Eastern region; I’m going to stand for the National Vice Chairperson, female,” Among stated.
The Association, represented by its executive, had visited the Speaker to raise concerns about the welfare, logistical, and financial challenges affecting their ability to perform their duties effectively.
It remains unclear whether Kadaga will seek to retain the position she fought hard for in the previous NRM elections.
Currently, the position of National Vice Chairperson for the Eastern Region is held by Rt. Flight Captain Mike Mukula.
